What it’s for
Technical Direction exists to lead the technical implementation of a production and make sure the technical departments deliver the agreed plan together, rather than working to cross-purposes.
How it works
The role is commonly focused on on-site delivery: coordinating between department heads, resolving technical conflicts as they arise, and communicating between technical teams and technical management. Earlier involvement, during pre-production and technical planning, is welcome where it is useful.
Responsibilities and decision-making authority are agreed according to the project, the client, and the contractual scope — Technical Direction can sit alongside Production Management or stand on its own, depending on how the production is structured.
